There’s A Plan To Build Arizona Smart City And Bill Gates Made An Investment Worth $80 Million Towards It

A certain group associated with an investment company of Gates made an investment worth $80 million for a high-tech smart city plan.

In Belmont, they will design the whole community around data centers, autonomous vehicles, and logistics hubs. They will also have high-speed digital networks and new technologies for manufacturing.

Until now though, Gates’ involvement in the whole plan remains unclear.

He is the former CEO of Microsoft. He also owns the parent company of Belmont, Cascade Investment. Right now, Arizona already has a reputation for being a state which is technology-friendly.

A lot of chief players in the autonomous vehicle industry are already testing their innovative creations in the said state.

This investment is a current example of the concept of rebuilding cities with a digital mindset. Of course, developing an entire city doesn’t come cheap.

Although it has spurred different investors to do similar projects, the company isn’t in a hurry. They see their investment as a long-term one.

Hackers Accessed Uber, Exposing More Than 50 Million People in 2016

Late in 2016, hackers were able to access personal information of millions of Uber users. And until Tuesday, the company didn’t report it.

At that time, 2 people outside of Uber hacked into the accounts of more than 50 million people. The hackers were able to go through the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of the users.

They were also able to access the numbers of drivers licenses in the US. The company didn’t inform the regulators or the victims when they learned of the breach.

In a statement, Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s CEO, claims he just learned of the breach recently.  Khosrowshahi just became the company’s CEO in August.

Apparently, he already started an investigation. He’s trying to find out why the victims or the authorities weren’t informed.

But he did say that when the incident happened, the company took immediate steps to fix the situation. They secured all the data and shut down further access by the hackers.

Twitter Takes Away Verification On A Number Of Users

On Wednesday, Twitter started taking away the verified mark of a number of its users.

The company made an announcement regarding new guidelines for the program of verification. And if accounts don’t follow the rules, Twitter will remove their verification.

Twitter can take away a user’s verification badge under some conditions. Such conditions are if there are tweets which instigate violence, harassment, or hatred.

The same will happen if a user violates any of the new guidelines. The verification badge is a blue icon which contains a white check mark.

You can find this right next to the user’s name. This badge shows that the company has already verified the identity of the user.

Since the beginning, Twitter has already taken away badges from some well-known users. As expected, these users complained right away.

Twitter removes badges of some users while removing others from the site entirely. Until now, the reason for this remains unclear.
